Pre-Juvenile Prize Winner

The Prejuvenile Starlites had a very successful fundraiser and would like to congratulate Marie Heath of Mount Pearl on winning the Framed Print. All team members would like to thank everyone who purchased tickets and helped to make their upcoming trip to Corner Brook a successful one.

Mount Pearl Top Club at Avalon Regionals

Mount Pearl skaters impressed the Judges and skating enthusiasts on hand for the Avalon Regional Competition held January 17th and 18th at the Glacier. More than thirty skaters from the home club captured twenty-one medals including nine gold. The top three skaters will represent the Club at Junior Provincials and Provincials to be held later this season. The great showing allowed the Mount Pearl Skating Club to bring home the Club award for most points.

Also recognized at this year's event were the CPG St. Pierre team for most improved over last year. The Most Artistic Award (Mini-Balisch Cup) went to Maggie Walsh of Prince of Wales SC. The Sis Reid Memorial Award for the region's top volunteer was claimed by Carol Kennedy of the Conception Bay South SC.

Congratulations to all participants, volunteers and supporters for a great competition this year!

Canskate Reminder

All parents are reminded that skaters participating in Canskate or Pre-Canskate are required to wear a CSA approved ice helmet while on ice at all times. Bicycle helmets are not permitted at any time.

Gold Bangle Fundraiser

The synchro teams with the club have been fundraising by selling tickets on a Gold Bangle. The draw took place at 5:30, Feb. 7th and the winner is Susan Baker of Mt Pearl, ticket # 0652.

The ticket was drawn by Krista Stanford a level 2 student at O'Donnell High School, and witnessed by Mary Houlihan and Theresa Wills.

Mount Pearl Dominates at Synchronized Skating Championship

Medals were claimed by all five Mount Pearl teams competing at this year's Provincial Synchronized Skating in Corner Brook and one team claimed a provincial record!

The first Gold medal on Saturday went to the Pre-Juvenile Starlites. The eleven member team dazzled those on hand at the Pepsi Center.

The second medal of the day was also Gold, won by the Juvenile Starlites who also set a Provincial Record with a score of 18.05 surpassing their own provincial record set last year.

The Novice Starlites claimed Silver with a presentation that won over the crowd and as well as highlighted thier amazing precision and synchronization.

The Junior Starlites also claimed Silver with one of the best presentations seen at the event this year. The team showed off their prowess on the ice with remarkable footwork, spins and overall synchronization.

The Club's Masters team, the Classic Edges, successfully defended their title. The Master's event is always a favourite at the competition and the ladies from Mount Pearl shone in this event.

A big congratulations to all the Mount Pearl skaters, every one of them coming home with a medal! Hat's off to the hard work of the team managers, Synchro Coordinator Howie Wills and the team coaches Kevin Walsh and Daisy Power!!

More than one hundred and twenty competitors came together in Mount Pearl at the Glacier on February 21st for a day of competition based in good sportsmanship and friendship.

The Mount Pearl Skating Club would like to extend a special congratulations to this years winner of the Most Artistic Skater award - Olivia Drover-Martin of Prince of Wales Skating Club.

Organizers wish to congratulate all of the competitors and coaches involved in this year's event. Special thanks to all the volunteers who dedicated their time to ensure that the event ran smoothly.

As well, a special thank you to the Judges and the technical team that worked behind the scenes.

A big bouquet goes to Dayna Willar, the Chair of the event, for her countless hours of organization and planning to make sure everything was in place for the big day. Photos will be available shortly and official results are on the Skate Newfoundland and Labrador website.

Tickets are now on sale during all Can-Skate sessions as well as at the Glacier main office. Tickets will be available for purchase during the dress rehersal, March 28th and the day of the show, March 29th. The cost of the tickets are: $10 for Adult and $5 for Children, 4 and under free.

Mount Pearl Achieves Excellence at Junior Provincials

Skaters from Mount Pearl excelled at the Junior Provincial Championships hosted in Grand Falls-Windsor The skill of the club's younger skaters was definitely on display as everyone who competed is deserving of high praise. Great job and congratulations to all!

It is that time again, another season has come to a close with a very successful ice show! We would like to congratulate all of the skaters who participated in the ice show. Without their hard work all season, none of this would be possible. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our volunteers for their hard work which allows our club to operate smoothly.

The end of the season also brings about our Annual General Meeting. Our AGM will be held on May 12th, 2009, likely at the Glacier, but concrete details will be coming soon. If you would like to learn more about the club, or to volunteer and help out, please come along.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Meghan Pugh for being the Canskater of the Year, Gabriel Adams and Quinn Parsons for being crowned Canskate Champions, Krista Burton who received her gold skills and freeskate test, and Nadine Houlihan who won the Sherry Drover award. We would also like to congratulate Tracy Hillyard for being recognized at the provincial AGM as Official of the Year! Congratulations to all of those who were recognized!

Volunteers for Special Olympics

We received a message from Special Olympics Newfoundland and Labrador, and we thought we would pass it along to all of our members.

Special Olympics Newfoundland & Labrador is dedicated to enriching the lives of Newfoundlanders & Labradorians with an intellectual disability through sport. It is a provincial not-for-profit grassroots organization that provides sport training and competition opportunities for over 500 athletes of all ages and abilities.

Special Olympics is based on the belief that through sports training and competition, people with intellectual disabilities benefit physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually; families are strengthened; and the community at large, both through participation and observation, is united in understanding people with intellectual disabilities in an environment of equality, respect, and acceptance.

This year marks the 20th Provincial Games and we are very excited about the event happening July 9-12 in Mount Pearl. To help make this years games the best for our athletes, we are in search for assistance from organizations that would be a match for this type of event.

AGM Location Change
